Frequently Asked Questions

Every question we get asked, in one place. If yours is not here, ask it on the Discovery Call.

AI visibility, in plain language

What does AI visibility actually mean for a contractor?

It is whether AI systems can find, understand and repeat accurate information about your business when a buyer asks them a question. For a construction company that usually means questions like who should I hire to build or remodel something in this city.

Is this just SEO with a new invoice?

SEO aims at a position on a page of links. AI visibility aims at being included in an answer the machine writes itself. Much of the underlying work overlaps, and we will tell you which line items are ordinary SEO. The genuinely different work is off-site corroboration and fact-level extractability.

What decides whether a machine quotes you?

They retrieve first, then write. Sources that are clearly described, easy to extract facts from, and corroborated by places you do not control get used more. Anything you say about yourself is the weakest evidence available, which is why third-party surfaces matter so much.

Can a three-crew outfit compete with a national brand here?

Yes, and often more easily than large ones. Answer engines are trying to satisfy a specific question, frequently a local one. A precise, well-described local contractor is a better answer than a national brand that does not clearly serve the area.

Why does every vendor use a different acronym?

Because the field is young and everybody wants to own the label. They describe overlapping work with different emphasis. Below are the ones you will hear, defined plainly, so a vendor cannot use vocabulary as a substitute for a method.

What is AEO?

Answer Engine Optimization. Structuring your information so it can be used in an answer rather than just ranked in a list. We use the same three letters for Alignment Everywhere Optimization, because the missing half of most AEO work is everything outside your website.

The acronyms, defined

What is AIO?

AI Optimization, sometimes AI Overview Optimization. Usually it means shaping content for Google's AI Overviews specifically. Worth knowing that Google's own documentation says no special markup is required to be eligible.

What is GEO?

Generative Engine Optimization. Optimizing to be cited by generative engines like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity. In practice it overlaps heavily with good SEO plus off-site presence, and controlled tests of aggressive body rewriting have come back worse rather than better.

What is LLMO?

Large Language Model Optimization. Aimed at how models represent your business, including from training data rather than live retrieval. It is the least controllable of these, because you cannot edit what a model already learned. You can only improve what it retrieves now.

What is ALLMO?

Advanced Large Language Model Optimization. A newer label for LLMO with more emphasis on entity clarity and structured data. Treat any vendor leaning hard on this acronym with the same question you should ask all of them: what is your denominator.

What is AISO?

AI Search Optimization. Broadly the same territory as AEO and GEO, framed around search behaviour rather than the engine. If someone charges differently for AISO and AEO, ask them to write down the difference.

So which one do you do?

All of the useful parts, and we will name the ones we think are oversold. The label matters far less than whether anyone measured your baseline before taking your money.

The Everywhere Audit

What is The Everywhere Audit?

A paid, measured review of every surface AI systems read about your business, not just your website. It identifies what is limiting how clearly your business is understood, and returns a prioritized plan you can act on with or without us.

Who should be buying this?

Businesses that already have a website and want to be found, understood and recommended in AI answers. It is built first for construction companies, where the buyer question is almost always who should I hire.

Do you only work with local trades?

No. Local businesses benefit most obviously because so many AI questions are local, but the method applies to any business with a website and an online presence.

What if I have no idea what is broken?

No. That is the entire purpose. Most businesses are wrong about which part is failing, which is why we measure instead of assuming.

What do you need from me to start?

You complete a short intake with your website, profiles and the services you want to be found for. We build the query set from that, run the measurement, then walk you through the findings and the priority order.

What happens after the audit?

You get the findings, the priority order, and a scoped proposal for the Alignment package your site actually needs. Plenty of clients take the plan to their own developer, which is fine and expected.

Why does this cost more than a cheap audit?

Because a cheap audit is one person looking at a website for an afternoon. This is a measured run across four engines with repetition, a full read of every off-site surface, the raw records handed to you, and a re-measurement at 90 days. Different product, honestly priced.

Is the fee refundable?

No, because the measurement and the review time are spent whether or not you continue. It applies in full to any Alignment package, so if you move forward it costs you nothing net.

Why start with an audit instead of guessing?

A website can look fine and still fail in the places that decide visibility. Starting with measurement stops you fixing the wrong pages first, paying for changes with no strategy behind them, and having no way to prove afterward whether any of it worked.

Who is this not for?

Anyone wanting a quick SEO hack, guaranteed AI recommendations, a generic automated scan, a keyword report with no strategy, or a full website rewrite bundled into the audit price.

Do I need the Discovery Call first?

Yes. The Discovery Call is where I find out whether this audit is the right spend for you. I will not sell an audit to a business that does not need it.

How long does it take?

Two to three weeks from intake, most of which is measurement and verification rather than writing.

Alignment packages

What is Alignment implementation?

The done-for-you work that applies your audit findings to your actual website and online presence. Structure, messaging, trust signals, internal linking, metadata, schema and content, scoped to what the measurement found.

What is Foundation Alignment?

The entry package. Your website made readable: robots, sitemap, canonical tags and structured data, homepage and core service page restructuring, clear service and service-area language, metadata, heading hierarchy and internal linking that connects.

What is Signal Alignment?

Everything in Foundation, plus the signals around your site that decide whether you get believed. Google Business Profile alignment, trust signals and credentials, FAQ architecture with FAQPage schema, review and directory consistency, and a full site content pass.

What is Visibility Alignment?

Everything in Signal, plus the surfaces you do not own. Off-site presence across LinkedIn, directories, profiles and third-party mentions, content built to be quoted, ongoing alignment to your Brand Canon, and quarterly re-measurement across all four engines.

What actually gets a contractor into AI answers?

Make it crawlable, make it clear, make its facts extractable, and make everything else about you online agree with it. In that order. There is no file you add that skips the sequence.

What does a machine-readable site look like?

Plain statements of what you do, who you help and where you serve. A heading structure that matches the meaning. Structured data that lets a machine verify your claims. Individual facts that make sense lifted out of the paragraph around them.

Are we paying twice for the same work?

Substantially overlapping, and we will tell you which parts. Foundation and clarity work is good SEO that also helps AI. Off-site corroboration and fact-level extractability are the genuinely additional pieces.

Why do service pages matter so much?

Because a buyer question is almost always about a service in a place. If your services are buried in a single page of prose, there is nothing specific for a machine to match against a specific question.

What counts as proof a machine can check?

Real proof a machine can verify: reviews with substance, licences and credentials, named service areas, project detail, and consistency with your Google Business Profile. Adjectives are not trust signals.

What do you mean by liftable facts?

Whether your most important information can be lifted, understood on its own, summarized and attributed back to you. If a sentence needs the three paragraphs above it to make sense, it is not extractable.

Brand identity

What do you actually hand over on a brand engagement?

The documented version of who you are: positioning, messaging, voice and visual identity, assembled so that every person and every tool working on your business starts from the same source instead of guessing.

What should be included?

Positioning, messaging, a documented voice, logo direction, palette and type, usage rules, and the Brand Canon underneath it all. If a package is only a logo and colours, it is a design deliverable, not a brand identity.

What has branding got to do with getting cited?

Because a brand is now also what a machine repeats about you when you are not in the room. Ambiguous positioning produces ambiguous answers, and ambiguous businesses get left out of shortlists.

We are two years old with no reputation. Does this work?

A new business has no history for engines to corroborate, so clarity is the only lever available immediately. Stating precisely what you do, for whom, and where, gets you into consideration far faster than volume does.

Is this worth doing before we have real revenue?

They benefit most, because they have not yet accumulated contradictory surfaces to clean up. Getting it right once is much cheaper than reconciling it later.

How do I know if we have outgrown our brand?

When the business has outgrown what the brand says, when your surfaces have drifted apart, or when nobody internally can state the positioning the same way twice. Not because the logo feels old.

Is this just a new logo?

A logo is a mark. A brand identity is the whole system, including the language, and the language is the part machines read.

Does this include logo design?

Yes, logo direction and design sit inside the package, alongside palette, type and usage rules.

Content and social

What is content alignment?

Making every surface that speaks for your business say the same thing your website says. Profiles, posts, bios, service descriptions and long-form content, all reconciled to one story.

Does anyone actually read our LinkedIn?

More than most people expect. In the measurements we run, a business’s LinkedIn presence is frequently cited more often than its own website. Your social presence is often speaking for you more loudly than your site.

Does it matter if the profiles say something different?

Because engines read both and weight the one they did not have to take your word for. If they disagree, the safest option for a machine is to leave you out of the answer entirely.

What makes content more trustworthy to a machine?

Specific claims with evidence attached, named people, named places, dates, and links to primary sources. Vague enthusiasm is unquotable.

What is an AI visibility content strategy?

Content planned from the questions buyers actually ask AI in your category, written to be quoted rather than just scrolled, and published on a cadence you can sustain.

Is content alignment the same as social media management?

No. Management posts. Alignment makes sure the posting adds up to a consistent, verifiable story across every surface. We do both, but they are not the same product.

Why does our posting never sound like us?

Usually because it is written by a different person, at a different time, from a different brief, with no documented voice to work from. That is a Brand Canon problem showing up as a content problem.

Can AI help with content without making it generic?

Yes, with structured context and a human in the loop. Generic output is what you get when a model has no context about your business, which is exactly the gap the Brand Canon closes.

Working together

Length of service

Project work is scoped and quoted after The Everywhere Audit. Monthly work runs month to month. We do not require six-month contracts, because a retainer you cannot leave is not a result, it is a lock.

Rush work

Possible on some scopes and quoted separately. We will tell you honestly when a deadline would force us to skip the measurement, because at that point you are buying activity rather than alignment.

Billing

Monthly packages begin on your start date and renew on that same date each month. Project work is invoiced against agreed milestones. Everything is stated in writing before anything starts.

Confidentiality

Your data, your measurement records and your business information stay yours. Nothing is used as a public case study without your written agreement, and any published number is one you have seen first.

Who owns the work?

You do. Everything we build, write and configure, including the raw measurement records, so any number can be re-derived without us.

Do you use AI in the work?

Yes, as a tool, with a human in the loop on every piece. That is a requirement, not a feature. We will never hand you something nobody read.

Can you work alongside my existing team?

Yes, and often that is the best outcome. The audit is useful to whoever does the implementation, including your current developer or agency.

Find out what AI says about you

Sixty minutes. We look at what AI currently says about your business, and I tell you whether the audit is worth your money. If it is not, I say so.
